Default Vectra 2.5 V6 vs Golf VR6

My cousin bought a Vectra 2.5 V6 after he smashed his Evo and he has been thinkign about gettin a VR6 Golf probably round a N-P plate for a few years since he's been in hospital we've decided to try and get him one!

Anyone know the Specs of the VR6 compared to the V6 Vectra???

the golf has about 10bhp more than a v6 veccy iic (not sure about the torque). I loved my VR6 and would buy another tomorrow, mine hadnt been looked after that well, my mate who i got it from didnt care and after 12 years and 103k miles it still didnt miss a beat - very solid cars. The vectra ive just got rid off (1.8 tho) was falling to bits at 27k.

In short ive not driven a V6 vectra but from my personal experience i would take a golf everytime!

Sounds Good to me Sten... I know how strong the Golfs are and the VR6 is a pretty damn good car... just wondered what they were like compared to the V6 Veccy...

Anyone got any specs...

If you do get him a VR6 and the mileageis nearing 90k+ (like 99% of them are these days) make sure the timing chains have been done, or at least budget an £800 extra to get them done.

Its an expensive job as the chains are on the gearbox side which has to be taken out to do them, but the fact that they have chains rather than a belt mean that they are damn strong for it.

I always did like the VR6 and would prefer one over the vectra any day

The Vectra SRi 170 isn't really that quick. Marginally slower than a 2.2 Astra.

A Vectra GSi (not 2.6) would be on-par with a VR6.

Money is no problem to my cousin he changes his car more often than his underwear....

One car we were lookign at had recipts for the Timing Chains at 76K it's only done 88K possibly worth buying it!

...in that case a few more horses than the Golf but they should be very evenly matched in a straight line. Id probably still take the golf but the vectra GSi is a nice car (just the reliability that would concern me).
